In the first part, we introduced and evaluated the appearance and features of the Bambu Lab X1E (please see here: [3D Printing] Bambu Lab X1E: Is It Really Worth the Price?). In this second part, we will present a performance test using actual printed parts. Is the performance of the X1E truly worth this price?

Bambu Lab X1E Performance Test Report
To test the reproducibility of the Bambu Lab X1E, the 3D Printing Industry team 3D printed square, hexagonal, and tubular models 12 times each, then compared their dimensions with the original design data. Parts with an average deviation of less than 0.1mm and a standard deviation of less than 0.05mm were rated as successful results.

The X1E showed excellent results in the reproducibility test. For the tubular, square, and hexagonal models, the average deviation was only 0.0573mm, and the standard deviation was 0.021mm. These results demonstrate that the X1E can achieve high precision and accuracy with surprising consistency. Therefore, the X1E is suitable for professional users who require the production of high-quality, highly reproducible parts such as jigs and assembly components.
Next, the 3D Printing Industry's unique 3DPI test was conducted, and the X1E earned an excellent score of 95.85/100. This is the highest score among all FDM 3D printers the team has tested.
This result was obtained in "Best" mode with a layer height of 0.16mm. While some issues occurred in the overhang test beyond 70°, most FDM systems see layer line drooping as early as 50°. Therefore, it can be said that the X1E's performance is significantly above average.

In 3D Printing Industry's performance test, 150 tubular models were printed, and 16 were randomly selected for measurement. For users who want to print a large number of the same shaped parts, performance testing is extremely important. It helps identify variations through statistical process control and confirms whether the machine can consistently achieve the required tolerances.

The X1E showed an excellent value of 7.99 in the Process Capability Index (Cp). This indicates that the process output is very stable and can maintain consistent values within specification limits. The Cpk (Minimum Process Capability Index) reached 3.887, meaning that it can produce results accurately within the specified range and the probability of defects occurring is extremely low. Overall, the X1E is very suitable for mass production applications that require high quality and consistency.
The 3D Printing Industry team also evaluated the X1E's ability to print small, precise parts. The test parts were 28mm long nuts and bolts that required strict tolerances. These parts were printed without issue, with clear details, no defects in the threads, and were actually functional. Therefore, the X1E is also suitable for manufacturing jigs used in the automotive and aerospace sectors.

Testing Bambu Lab X1E Applications
3D Printing Industry printed grid wheels for an RC skateboard using PA6-CF material. It had a high-quality finish with no noticeable defects, and no post-processing was required!

They also successfully printed an air intake connection duct for a rally car using ASA material with a glass transition temperature of 110°C. This intake duct had no warping or surface defects, making it very suitable for use in the automotive sector.

In addition, a functional prototype of a tail lamp unit was 3D printed. Transparent polycarbonate was used for the lens, which not only transmits light but also acts as a diffuser. The housing was made using ABS material to prevent wear from environmental factors. The bracket was 3D printed using PLA to replicate a metal plate.

Next, they produced a drone frame via 3D printing using PAHT-CF material. This required using Bambu Lab support material. Support material removal was not easy, but with the proper tools and persistent work, it was ultimately successful.

For users in the FDM market, one of the particularly attractive features is the multi-color 3D printing functionality included in Bambu Studio. The Automatic Material System (AMS) can hold four spools. This system reads RFID chips and automatically feeds filament to the toolhead.
The corporate logos and Hue Forge art pieces 3D printed by 3D Printing Industry show that this feature is also suitable for the art and craft sector. You can create parts using multiple colors in a single 3D print.
Furthermore, a high-quality anatomical heart model was produced. This is suitable for educational and demonstration purposes. In the medical and biomedical fields, the X1E can be utilized to create life-sized 3D printed anatomical models from CT and MRI images, helping medical professionals consider optimal surgical procedures.

Concerns Regarding Data Security Faced by Bambu Lab
According to some sources, log files from Bambu Lab were said to contain information about intellectual property such as 3MF files and G-code when transmitted to the cloud. This was attributed to a lack of security protocols in previous firmware, which reportedly left them susceptible to external interception and decryption.
Since Bambu Studio and Bambu devices rely heavily on cloud services, data leaks or unauthorized access could cause significant business disruptions or lead to the exposure of proprietary design data. Data collected by Bambu Lab devices include video streams recorded by internal cameras and LiDAR, as well as detailed print information. If the system were compromised, this data could be accessed, posing a serious problem, especially for the defense sector which handles highly confidential data.
Furthermore, in 2023, it was reported that all cloud-connected Bambu Lab 3D printers automatically started printing, damaging many units. This was attributed to a failure in Bambu's cloud services after a system reset, causing the 3D printers to restart the last print job they had executed. Following reports that decrypted log files contained intellectual property information and had been collected by the Bambu Cloud, Bambu specifically developed the X1E to ensure network and user safety.
With the newly included Ethernet port on this 3D printer, the X1E can operate without connecting to the cloud. The X1E also supports WPA2 Enterprise authentication, ensuring network security and offline printing capabilities. Therefore, it is also suitable for users who perform 3D printing under non-disclosure agreements.
Bambu Lab X1E: A Cost-Effective Desktop 3D Printer
The X1E is sold only through dealers, and the price includes the Automatic Material System (AMS). The price of the X1E is nearly double that of the previous model, the X1C. The Creality K2 is a direct competitor to the X1E, offering similar features while being cheaper than the X1E, with the exception of enhanced network connectivity and a high-performance air filter. The Ultimaker S5 is also a hardware competitor, but is significantly more expensive.
Overall, the X1E can be said to be a cost-effective 3D printer. It is equipped with attractive features, can achieve high-quality 3D prints, and supports a variety of materials, making it useful for a wide range of applications.
Bambu Lab X1E: A New Standard in the Desktop 3D Printer Market
The X1E showed excellent results in various dimension tests by 3D Printing Industry. This 3D printer is designed for the professional market and represents a major advancement in desktop 3D printing technology. It combines high-speed printing performance with excellent build quality and significantly expands the range of materials it can handle through an improved hotend and active heating print chamber. Therefore, the X1E is suitable for professional applications in various industries.

Although Bambu Lab has introduced additional security protocols to enhance the security measures of its cloud services, users considering adoption should also take data security into account. Also, to avoid downtime and inconvenience, it is recommended that the X1E undergo monthly maintenance checks. This can be done by lubricating the lead screws, removing dirt, and being careful not to damage the wiring when removing the nozzle.
While the X1E has many advantages, it is not without its drawbacks.
Nozzle clogs can occur on the X1E. However, these issues are relatively easy to solve thanks to the magnetic toolhead cover and the two screws securing the nozzle. Parts are also very easy to remove and require almost no effort. Poor adhesion to the build plate may also occur, but this can be addressed by using the included glue stick. Such minor issues are more than compensated for by the many benefits the printer has, such as its excellent print quality, speed, and comprehensive support ecosystem. The Bambu Wiki has a wealth of support information, and the community and experts comment on and answer problems posted in forum format. Filament and replacement parts can be purchased from the Bambu Lab store or the 3DMart website!
In summary, the Bambu Lab X1E is a powerful and reliable 3D printer that provides excellent performance and user experience. Therefore, it is a worthwhile investment for hobbyists and professionals who require precise and stable 3D printing.
